ABOUT NKAWKAW DIOCESE

Methodism spread to the Kwahu area with the arrival of a blind evangelist by name Abraham Dei from Akwapim Mampong on 14th September, 1919 at Mpraeso, Kwahu. He was accompanied by his two sisters Elizabeth Asare and Mary Afram as well as three children.

At the time that he settled at Mpraeso, the Presbyterian Church had been established and was flourishing well. As a true Wesleyan, he yearned to open a Methodist Church there. This burning desire in his heart led to the organisation of an open air preaching on 21st September, 1919, but unfortunately, there were no converts.

As a result of this lack of response and the opposition he encountered from the already established Presbyterian Church, Abraham moved camp to the nearby town of Atibie and sought permission and support from the Chief and Elders to introduce his Religion.
